Hello, my name is Tyler, I am a confident, outgoing nineteen year-old with a huge passion for teaching skiing and working with clients and their children to provide the best tailor made experience on snow that caters to all ability levels. I always love to encourage students curiosities and goals with snow-sports and integrate these into my lessons. I taught at Lake Louise in the 2022-23 season earning my CSIA level 1 and 2 skiing and teaching qualifications and hope to progress my technical ability to be able to sit the CSIA level 3 exam in 2025.
As a young man straight out of college I moved to Canada on my own knowing no one I would be working/living with and because of this, I believe I have greatly improved my interpersonal skills and posses a heightened sense of sense of individuality that would, no doubt, allow me to settle into Japan’s culture and environment. I would describe myself as incredibly self-motivated and with a high level of personal responsibility, developed by teaching and overseeing groups of up to 14 children during lessons on the mountain and ensuring their lesson can operate in a safe yet engaging and fun space. One of the things I enjoy most about working in education is the satisfaction and happiness my students get after progressing their abilities and confidence with me in a way that others haven’t discovered yet. I can utilise a wide array of drills and observation techniques to examine my students flaws or to help progress skills they already have acquired. Due to the fast and unpredictable nature of skiing, I plan ahead for my lessons but always have a few ideas on the side, should we need to focus on a different area of ability first. This has sharpened my improvisation and teaching expertise, always having 2 or 3 lessons available for varied skill levels in my head to call upon.
Last season I worked major holidays such as Christmas, new years day and boxing day, often maintaining a very flexible work schedule all winter long.
In addition to my teaching qualifications I am UK DBS background checked, have received first aid training in 2022 and underwent the Canadian av1 and av2 avalanche safety course which included the causes, conditions and procedures of rescue associated with varying magnitudes of avalanche.
I hope to hear from you soon,
Many thanks,
Tyler
