I have long wanted to do a ski season as part of my gap year before starting university in 2023, where I will be reading Arabic and Spanish at the University of Exeter. I am adventurous and keen to travel through working in different countries. A chalet host would be the perfect role for me, as it combines many of my best capabilities and things I enjoy; cooking, socialising and looking after people. My keenness to gain the full ski-season experience, which includes meeting new people, experiencing life abroad in a different atmosphere and becoming more confident and accomplished is what would make me a great chalet host as it means I will put in maximum effort. It is not only my interest and training in cooking combined with my social skills and friendliness that makes me a fitting candidate for the chalet host role, but how much effort I would put into making people feel at home. I know it is important to accommodate guests by being conversational and getting to know families or groups, so they establish a friendly connection to your company and a greater, more personal connection to ski holidays in the Alps. I have experience in customer service as a waitress, so I understand the importance of making every effort to ensure the customer is not only always satisfied but enjoying themselves.
With my Mum as a professional chef, I have been taught how to cook from a young age and regularly experiment with new dishes. Although already experienced, I learnt a lot on my Orchard’s cookery course about cooking in a Chalet by practicing in a more professional environment under time pressure. I could happily provide many of Orchard’s recipes for a chalet, but I can also go beyond this with more modern dishes.
I also house/dog sit for a family that regularly commutes to London with a 7-bed victorian house. It involves cleaning, particularly bathrooms, doing laundry and preparing a meal for their return on a Sunday, so maintaining the chalet will not be a problem.
I have good teamworking skills, having played many team sports at school and completed Gold Duke of Edingburgh where we were challenged to work together under pressure. I am also a great team leader, as a senior prefect at school responsible for organising several events such as my summer ball. I am a great communicator, which I worked on in my LAMDA level Gold (Public speaking).
